Huyễn Tế (幻祭) –The Phantom Rite is a collage-based artistic practice that explores the duality of materiality and ideology in the shifting landscapes of memory, ritual, and technology.

Inspired by traditional East Asian funeral rites and the increasing influence of artificial intelligence on memory preservation, this project raises an unsettling question: Is death still an endpoint when personal data can be digitized and perpetually reconstructed?

By integrating contemporary newsprint with joss paper—a ritual material deeply connected to ancestral remembrance—this work juxtaposes two opposing substances: one rooted in industrial permanence, the other ephemeral and symbolic. This visual interplay generates a mnemonic topology, where the real and the virtual, life and death, material and concept intertwine.
