Phù Sa/Alluvial Soil (2026) is a series of 17 gouache works on papier-mâché, continuing my material-based practice with paper. Through experimentation, I discovered a resonance between the vivid intensity of gouache pigments and the porous, rough texture of papier-mâché. Emerging from reflections on Central Vietnam, a region shaped by waterways, monsoon seasons, and cycles of departure and return, Phù Sa evokes a sensibility of place. The raw surfaces of papier-mâché become emotional strata, carrying traces of landscape and memory: rugged like cliffs eroded by sea salt, or soft like seaweed washed ashore after high tide. Layers of gouache emerge and dissolve like ocean currents.
